Michael Falligan Jr. is an entertainment professional and Music Business adjunct professor specializing in Business and Hip Hop culture. As a professor, he instructs and engages 35-50 students per semester on a wide range of careers in performance, entrepreneurship, and all aspects of the global music business by analyzing current business models.

Michael's passion for educating and sharing knowledge stems from his time as a student mentor and involvement in music business summits at SUNY Oneonta. With a lifelong dedication to the entertainment industry and over seven years of experience in creative project management, team leadership, and production financing, he supports creators and artists. In his professorial role, Michael partners with external employers, managers, internship programs, and independent artists to join as guest speakers and give the class insights into their real-world experiences.

"My objective as an educator has always been to provide a space for the creative mind to blossom. Students deserve to showcase their creativity and innovation in the classroom and through coursework. Through group discussions in class, I can grasp the unique community of my course. I can discern the similarities and differences among students and tailor the coursework to support their interests and opportunities for expanded knowledge. Keeping students engaged is crucial - considering students enjoy various forms of media like podcasting, providing a platform for them to express their thoughts is essential. As a case study, I have incorporated a discussion section during class to connect the coursework to real-world experiences. Students can share interests, knowledge, and resources for advancement in academic and personal pursuits. Through my experience, I have been dedicated to mastering the ever-evolving business practices and models that lead to the success of my students as they enter the field. I enjoy incorporating insider techniques, practices, and methods into my lessons to facilitate a smoother transition for my students from the academic world to the professional music business."

2020 Music Industry Conference - SUNY Oneonta
Over 130 music industry students from SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Broome, SUNY Purchase, and Stevens Institute of Technology attended the inaugural "Take a Leap" Music Industry Conference on February 29.
Organized by SUNY Oneonta's Music Industry Club, this event provided invaluable knowledge and networking opportunities. The conference featured a distinguished panel of successful music industry professionals, including myself and alumni, who shared insights, discussed trends, and offered tips. Students also had the chance to establish meaningful connections with industry veterans.
I had the privilege of accompanying the students to the recording studio, providing feedback on their unreleased music and sharing resources on studio equipment. The conference was an enriching experience, equipping students with valuable insights, networking opportunities, and practical guidance for their music careers.

A panel of recent MBA/Graduate's shared advice on getting the most out of an MBA/Graduate Degree. The decision to invest in a graduate degree was BIG! Professionals shared insights on why they went on to earn an advanced degree, discussed how they leveraged their degree in their careers, and shared tips for students on making the most of the educatonal experience.
